EMC Testing
Print this page

Compliance with the EMC Directive is a mandatory requirement for CE marking within Europe and is fast becoming mandatory for an increasing range of products for countries outside the EU, such as Japan, USA and the Middle East.

Nearly 50 percent of all products fail to fulfil the EMC requirements at the first attempt of EMC testing. This is why Intertek’s experienced engineers are on hand to assist you with the investigation and resolution of EMC problems that can occur during the testing phase.

Intertek can test to the requirements of most EMC standards, which include:

  • Radiated and Conducted Immunity and Emissions
  • ESD (Electrostatic Discharge)
  • Voltage Fluctuations, Harmonics and Burst Transients
and is also accredited to undertake tests on Classified Military Equipment.

Military EMC
Intertek now offers electro-magnetic testing on classified military projects, having recently been accredited by the Ministry of Defence. The laboratory offers a wide range of Military EMC tests covering both the Military and Aerospace industry and we can usually quote within 24 hours of request. Intertek are also members of the Defence Manufacturers Association

Our EMC facility is accredited by UKAS to undertake testing to the following standards:
* MIL STD 461 versions A, B, C, D, E
* DEF STAN 59-41 AND 61-5
* RTCA DO 160
* EFA- 2 and EFA-3 including LEMP and NEMP lightning strikes up to 30KA

Intertek provides local testing and also maintains more than a dozen EMC testing facilities around the world. Our facilities offer both open and fully sheltered sites, fully anechoic and semi-anechoic chambers, with site size ranging from 3 to 30 meters, the 30 meters site being one of the largest in the industry. EMF testing a new requirement

The new standard EN 50366:2003 for evaluating electromagnetic fields (EMF) generated by household appliances and similar equipment became compulsory in February 2006. If you need testing, contact us for more information. We handle anything from small domestic and consumer products up to large industrial machines and specialised equipment.
