Leading Indian test laboratory secures ASTA BEAB accreditation07/07/2005| | | | |
The Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) in India has secured ASTA BEAB laboratory accreditation. The accreditation is respected across the world and recognises the highest levels of testing expertise.
Manufacturers of electrical products are increasingly seeking product certification through test laboratories closer to their site of manufacture, to reduce costs and obtain better test services. Having access to a convenient test facility means transportation expenses are reduced and personnel from the factory and the laboratory can work more effectively together.
To support this approach, ASTA BEAB have been proactively developing their global laboratory network with leading test facilities across the world - giving manufacturers more choice in the range of the accredited test sites available to them.
The latest laboratory to join the ASTA BEAB accredited laboratory network is the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) in India, with a primary remit to provide type-testing services for electrical equipment in the Indian, South Asian and Middle Eastern regions. CPRI have a wide accredited scope that includes low and high voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, busbar trunking, transformers and high voltage power transformers, alternating circuit breakers and control gear.
ASTA BEAB's rigorous accreditation process ensures that only the very best facilities across the world are appointed to carry out testing to support ASTA BEAB Certification. CPRI are well respected in India and bring extensive expertise and local knowledge to the partnership. Leading equipment manufacturers in the region are already beginning to take advantage of the relationship with several projects underway. Laboratory Development Manager Pat Gibbons said: "Our primary task is to help manufacturers secure testing and certification services as efficiently as possible, and by extending our laboratory network and working with CPRI, we have taken another step towards achieving our goal. We are delighted to be working with them"
As an ASTA BEAB Accredited laboratory, CPRI will be able to offer a full range ASTA Certificates and documentation. Manufacturers, consultants, contractors and utilities throughout the world recognise these documents as providing robust support for Duty of Care and adherence to specification claims made by manufacturers.
About CPRI:
Originally set up in 1960 by the Indian government, CPRI became autonomous in 1978. With nearly 300 engineers and scientists, CPRI has an extensive in-house knowledge base and are dedicated to supporting the electrical power sector.
Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) has world-recognised expertise in testing power transmission and distribution systems, equipment and accessories at their extensively equipped test sites, located across India. Recent assessments by ASTA BEAB led to the accreditation of the Bangalore and Bhopal facilities, enabling them to provide test services leading to ASTA BEAB Certification.
The scope of their accreditation from ASTA BEAB includes all low and high voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, switches, disconnectors, contactors, fuse combinations, fuses, fuse links, switchgear, control assemblies, bus bar trunking, motor starters, control circuit devices, switching elements, transformers and reactors and high voltage transformers, alternating current circuit breakers and AC metal enclosed switch gear.
