New RoHS & WEEE Services available from ASTA BEAB01/05/2006| | | | |
In an effort to reduce the amount of waste electrical and electronic (WEEE) products going into landfill and to minimise the harmful substances in them, the European Parliament has introduced two Directives placing the onus on product manufacturers and producers for the reclamation and recycling of used product and requiring them to minimise specific hazardous substances in the manufacturing process:
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2002/96/EC
The Restriction Of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive 2002/95/EC
Any organisation involved in manufacturing or selling EEE in Europe needs to understand their responsibilities under the WEEE and RoHS Directives and where relevant make sure they can demonstrate their compliance with it. Due to our extensive knowledge of the possible routes to compliance in this area, we can offer informed signposting to registered WEEE solution providers to suit your needs and also provide a number of specific services to tackle RoHS challenges.
Our reputation in this sector also enables us to work with the very best materials specialists at the cutting edge of WEEE and RoHS who are heavily involved in the various working groups on materials and the environment, who are shaping the implementation of the Directives. As such we are now able to offer the following new services.
HALF DAY AWARENESS TRAINING
The session will provide an overview of:
the RoHS & WEEE Directives
the implications of restricting various substances in electrical products
the methods of managing obligations
activities that contribute to your companys compliance efforts.
HALF DAY WORKSHOPS
2 half-day workshops are available that explore compliance activity. The first discussing materials test, compliance solutions and materials substitutions and the second examining RoHS compliance activity in the context of proven quality management methodology.
REGULAR UPDATES
Clients can receive email updates on the latest developments on the RoHS Directive, as they happen.
TECHNICAL FILE REVIEW
As part of a declaration of conformity with the RoHS Directive, manufacturers are compiling technical files containing data on the materials used in their products. A qualified materials Engineer from ASTA BEAB can review and validate this data ensuring the quality and consistency of it. The output of this review will be a detailed report covering the findings.
TECHNICAL FILE PREPARATION
Preparing a technical file involves the compilation and assessment of all the data necessary to produce a final technical file suitable for the relevant authorities. The output of this service will be a completed technical file.
PRODUCT RISK ASSESSMENT (DESKTOP REVIEW)
Here a qualified materials engineer to independently assess the product for areas of possible non-compliance. Combining the technical file data with a bench top product assessment in order to identify non-conformities. The output of the risk assessment is a completed Failure Modes Affects Analysis (FMEA) in relation to ROHS failure modes and includes the covering report / summary of recommendations.
COMPLETE PRODUCT RISK ANALYSIS
This combines assessment of the technical file data with the FMEA analysis, backed up with selective testing on high-risk items. The output of this assessment is a completed review of the technical file, completed failure modes affects analysis (FMEA) in relation to ROHS failure modes, selective analytical testing of high risk identified items and full technical report.
MATERIAL DECLARATION
A service to produce a suitable material declaration for your materials. This will involve consultation with suppliers and/or staff and the resulting declarations will form part of the technical file.
MATERIAL ANALYSIS
A range of testing services based around SEM/EDX, XRF and FTIR testing methods. Both qualitative and quantitative results are possible for components or individual materials. Tests are carried out in accordance with the draft standard IEC62321. The output of this service will be a simple test report / certificate.
MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AUDIT
This service helps manufacturers to look at the processes of how they manage the introduction of hazardous substances into their products from their suppliers of raw materials and components. Utilising the proven methodology of a renowned quality management system, we can provide you with a framework to manage and track your RoHS compliance in-house, provide annual Inspections and issue RoHS Management System Certificates.
To discuss your WEEE and RoHS requirements with one of our specialists, please send us an email at info@astabeab.com, detailing your company name, your location and whether you organisation currently holds an ISO9001 certification.
