International EMC Certification from ASTA BEAB

ASTA BEAB Certification Services was formed at the beginning of the year through the merger of two principal certification bodies in the electrotechnical sector, ASTA Certification Services and the British Electrotechnical Approvals Board (BEAB). The aims of the merger have been to further strengthen representation of UK certification on a world stage through their longstanding membership of the International CB Scheme and the European CCA Certification Scheme.

Alongside their renowned product safety certification marks ASTA BEAB provide two EMC marking schemes based on independent third party assessment of relevant test reports.

The CCA EMC Mark is offered by ASTA BEAB as a member of the European EMC Group. Based on independent third party testing the scheme is available to manufacturers worldwide of domestic electrical products and SoHo (Small office Home office) equipment which is tested in recognised European EMC test laboratories. It can be used by manufacturers to support their Declaration of Conformity to the essential requirements of the EMC Directive.

The BEAB EMC Verified mark can be applied to the products of any manufacturer to demonstrate the compliance of their product with the appropriate European EMC standard. Testing can be provided by any ASTA BEAB accredited laboratory worldwide.

CB Scheme EMC Certification

At the latest CB Scheme Certification Management Committee meeting, held in Kyoto on 24th and 25th June 2004, the scope of the CB Scheme was extended to EMC Certification.

The CB Scheme has now entered upon the exercise of canvassing members to establish the range of standards that will be contained within the extension of its scope. This is scheduled to be completed by 10th September when the definitive list will be confirmed, after which member bodies and associated testing laboratories will register with the Scheme.

The good news for UK manufacturers and exporters is that they can take advantage of the proposed expansion to the CB Scheme to EMC via ASTA BEAB.

Most world markets have EMC regulations based upon International and European standards. Manufacturers are required to demonstrate compliance with these regulations through the provision of appropriate technical files, or EMC certification.
